Toryn Sperry, MA, Research Associate, began working with Choice Research Associates in January 2023 on the City of Salisbury Police Department Biased-Based Policing Research Project. Toryn is also a Doctoral Candidate and Research Assistant at the University of Maryland, Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice. She has assisted on a variety of research projects including evaluations of Baltimore Police Department’s recidivism reduction program for violent offenders, analyzing Milwaukee Police Department’s consent decree compliance, and assessing residents’ perceptions of police functions in Baltimore. Toryn has also assisted with research projects for the Crime and Justice Institute and drafted model policies for the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

Toryn is primarily interested in the study of inequality throughout all phases of the criminal justice system, as well as evidence-based advancements to the policing profession. Toryn earned her master’s degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice in 2021 from the University of Maryland, College Park, and is expected to complete her Ph.D. in 2024.
