Zachary Rowan is currently an Assistant Professor in the School of Criminology at Simon Fraser University. He joined the School in 2018 after completing a postdoctoral scholar position at the University of California-Irvine and PhD from the University of Maryland – College Park in 2017. His work involves understanding the complex role that groups and co-offending have in facilitating the entry into and persistence of crime, as well as the implications of formal involvement in the justice system among youth on altering trajectories of peer dynamics and criminal offending. Most recently, he has been examining the impacts of the decision-making of criminal justice officials on outcomes for youth and adults in the justice system, with a particular focus on considering the role of attributions in pre-sentence reports on sentencing outcomes. In addition, he currently has funding from the City of Burnaby in British Columbia to propose and evaluate strategies aimed at reducing gun and gang violence.
